The highly anticipated Web Summit 2024 kicked off in Lisbon, Portugal, drawing in over 70,000 attendees from around the globe. With representatives from 160 countries, the event has become a magnet for tech enthusiasts, investors, and innovators, aiming to showcase the latest trends and advancements in the digital world.
Among the notable attendees at this year’s event are Vicente Ribeiro, CEO of DOit. Always actively engaging with the tech community, exploring groundbreaking innovations that could redefine industry standards, particularly within the ERP and pharmaceutical sectors.

Web Summit 2024 has attracted big names from tech giants such as IBM, Meta, Amazon, Bumble, and Alibaba.com. The event’s lineup includes a dynamic mix of keynote speakers and panel discussions. On the opening night, attendees were treated to an insightful exchange between Grammy-winning artist Pharrell Williams, who also serves as the creative director of menswear at Louis Vuitton, and Visa’s executive director Frank Cooper III. Their discussion centered around the interplay of trade, creativity, and the evolving digital economy.
This year’s edition has seen a significant surge in startup participation, with a 15% increase compared to 2023. Over 3,000 companies are showcasing their solutions, 1,200 of which were founded by women, reflecting the event’s commitment to diversity and inclusion. Additionally, 500 startups are part of the Impact program, highlighting innovative ventures aligned with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.
One of the big names expected for November 12th was Microsoft Vice Chair and President, Brad Smith, with the talk “The Next Great GPT”.
Startups have found great value in the Web Summit’s environment, as evidenced by new data from the Web Summit x Crunchbase report. The analysis revealed that companies participating in the event have raised an impressive $60.6 billion in total funding, with an average annual funding of $5.5 million, well above the industry norm.
The event is not only a showcase of technology but also a hub for networking and investment opportunities. This year, 1,000 investors, including representatives from Seven Seven Six, Qatar Investment Authority, Northzone and Khosla Ventures, are meeting with early-stage startups, facilitating connections that could shape the future of the tech ecosystem.
With delegations from 40 countries, including Brazil, Germany, Ukraine, and Ireland, the international representation highlights the global appeal of the Web Summit. Germany, for instance, brought a delegation featuring 80 startups, while Brazil is represented by a diverse mix of 80 emerging companies.
Web Summit was originally created in 2009 by Irish entrepreneurs Paddy Cosgrave, David Kelly, and Daire Hickey in Dublin, Ireland. Since then, the conference has grown exponentially, establishing Lisbon as its primary venue while expanding to other international editions, such as Web Summit Rio (which by the way, we were there too). This year’s event, declared “officially sold out,” is supported by a robust team of 300 employees and 6,000 volunteers, demonstrating the scale and importance of the conference.
As the event progresses, the tech community eagerly awaits more announcements, product launches, and insights from industry leaders.

And the most exciting sessions featured Troy Astorino, Co-founder & Chief Technology Officer of Picnic Health, and Elena Poughia, Managing Editor of Dataconomy Media, two incredible leaders driving change in health tech and data science. Their discussion highlighted the transformative power of AI, and how it will help reinvent Health Tech.
